Winter in Rockridge

Just when I was getting all excited about the the groundhog predicting an early spring, here are some wintry photos I took back in December in Rockridge. Not exactly a winter wonderland, but this is California, so what did you expect?

I love the Rockridge neighborhood. It’s full of cute homes and shops and cafes and restaurants and it’s quaint and perfect in every way. Do you have a neighborhood like that near where you live? Or perhaps you live in a neighborhood like this yourself?

I love walking around this neighborhood during the early evening in the wintertime. I can smell dinner cooking and fireplaces running. Lights start to flicker on and for a moment, everything seems right. Sometimes I think I’d like to live here, but then I worry it would spoil the specialness of these little trips to this little neighborhood.

Bedroom

You know when you have a few exposures left on a roll of film and want to use them up before you get it developed? That happened to me the other day and I decided to finish off the roll with a few quick snaps of my bedroom.

I redecorated my room a few months ago and it’s my favorite place to spend the day. It has a big window, so the morning and afternoon sunlight hits right on my bed. It’s glorious. Sometimes I get in the habit of working from my bed a little tooooo much (like right now, for instance). But that’s okay. It’s cozy. Aubrey likes it too.

Well, that’s all for now folks! I’ll do a more proper room tour with all the nitty gritty sometime soon. But until then, you can see more bits and pieces of my room in this video in case ya missed it!

This place

What are rainy days good for other than unarchiving old photos? The other day I did just that.

This is the house where we lived in Connecticut before moving across the country to California. It’s funny, looking back at that house, my perspective of it has entirely changed. When I lived there, I couldn’t stand how old it was (it was an old farmhouse built in 1906). The creaky floorboards, the antiquated radiators, and the small box-y rooms drove me nuts. But now, looking at these photos, I love that little farmhouse, creaky floors, and everything (adds to the charm of it all if you ask me!). Oh, the photo shoots I could do in this place! If only…

Do you often find yourself looking back and realizing you completely took what you had for granted? I do. Or perhaps maybe it’s my memory playing tricks on me. You know, your memory tends to coat everything in a layer of gold. Do you have any favorite memories?

Sometimes I look back at these old pictures – this former life – and think that one day maybe I’ll move back. I don’t know if I’ll ever move back or not… if I do, I’m afraid my memory will have played tricks on me and I’ll realize this old life will not be as precious as I remember it. And in that sense, I’ll taint the sweet memories I have of it now. Does that make sense? Do you ever feel that way?

PS. Lots more photos of this house are on my Facebook page, including some interiors (these were taken right before we moved, so all our furniture was packed and the house was empty).

Project Scarlett

HAPPY FRIDAY FOLKS!

I am head over heels in love with this room by Christine of Bijou and Boheme for her daughter, Scarlett.

It was inspired by Marie Antoinette’s dressing room… such a great inspiration for a little girl’s room. I love the wallpaper she used from Hygge & West. I think I would’ve died if I had a room like this when I was little. (Actually… I wouldn’t mind having a room like this now!)

A lovely place to spend the day

Kara of I Just Might Explode keeps a mighty pretty abode. The perfect place to spend the day, wouldn’t you say? (I’m just full of rhymes today, aren’t I?)

It’s a wee bit windy and chilly outside today and I can totally picture myself on that chair, huddled up with a blanket and my laptop blogging the day away… err I mean doing homework.

The studio apartment is only 400 square feet, but sure packs in quite a bit of loveliness in such a small space.

Team spirit

Were you into clubs in school? I was never one for clubs in school. Perhaps you weren’t either… or maybe you were? My freshman year of high school I tried, I really tried to get into the whole club scene, but alas, it wasn’t for me.

BUT if I had to join a club, this would be the one. As the title suggests, Stay Home Club is a club for girls who love cats (…or in my case dogs) and like to stay home (which probably accounts for 99.9% of bloggers these days…). Umm hello where do I sign up??!!

stay home club - drifter and the gypsy blog

Run by Olivia Mew, Stay Home Club provides a venue for artists and illustrators (including some of my favorites Caitlin Shearer and Meera Lee Patel) to sell their work as printed textiles. On the site you can buy stuff like bedding and club merch for your perfect night home alone or with your animal of choice. Ahh I love it ♥

Crying a little on the inside I have no use for these little gems… If you’re in the market for these beauties, I’d say snatch ‘em up because I have a feeling they won’t last too long!
